The Number 1 Reason I Knit

My mother crocheted. Let the rivalry over "life before kids" hobbies ensue.

Mad Progress

A quick update to let you know that much progress is being made in many areas of my life. Thanks to 3 hours of driving two weeks ago, about 7 hours last weekend, and a weekend of sitting around visiting with only the HP sweater to keep my hands busy, I announce that the front only has 2 cms to go before neck shaping and the back has about 12 left to go before shoulder shaping. With another trip to Philadelphia at the beginning of July as well as another trip to the Erie area, I anticipate meeting my deadline. Unless I run out of yarn...which I will...then I'm screwed.

If you've been wondering where I've been for the past few months weeks, I can only plead capture. I've been locked up in the attic. No really. I mean it. The temp thing isn't panning out. You tell them that you're "minimum" is $11/hr. and they try to stick you with $8/hr. stuff. So, my parents have graciously allowed me to earn some money by cleaning out the attic this summer. As Robin Williams would say, "It's hot! Damn hot!" By 10 AM, it's about 90F up there. But again, much progress is being made. I've gone through all the boxes I can. I'm waiting for my mother to glean the treasure from the rest. All that remains for me is to vacuum the floor and reorganize all the stuff we're keeping. Next I start on the formidable basement. dum dum dum

Happy knitting, everyone!

Casting About

When one of our dogs senses that people are leaving, that a visit is finished, she wanders around the house aimless but alert. She knows that something's coming to a close, but she's not sure just what's going to come next.

I finished the Hall of Fame Socks last night.

No, that's not a loose end you see. You're imagining things.

Specs:

Pattern from Stasia's Sock Page which I highly, HIGHLY recommend. Adjustments for every situation.

Needles: Size 3, one Addi Turbo (worked really well), one Crystal Palace (sucked and made the yarn shred a bit)

Yarn: Koigu KPPPM Colorway 122

I think these are for winter wear only. Any time I've had them on for more than 5 minutes, my feet begin to sweat.

These knit up really quickly, there wasn't a lot of time investment spent in them. At first I thought they were a "fill-in" project, kinda like the new pope. Just taking up mental space until the next big project would be finished. But as I gazed over my knitting basket this morning, I found myself thinking, "What do you do after you've satisfied a craving?"

I used to get cravings for scrambled eggs and ketchup. I'd rummage through the kitchen nibbling everything in site with little satisfaction. There was still something missing. Then I landed on the scrambled eggs and ketchup. After that, I stopped eating. But what should I do after I've satisfied a knitting craving? Stop knitting? Shirley, ye jest.

Nothing in the basket seems to interest me right now. The Samwise sleeves have me worried. I know the arms are going to reach down to my ankles, but I don't know how to fix the increases so that they feet my short yet stout arms. The first Sophie Bag I made has me frustrated with the felting. That damn Peace Fleece is too durable. I don't really have the desire to finish the second one if I'm going to be just as unhappy with the results. Clapotis...I hate to admit thinking this way, but I was sensing some derision in the other blogs about those who knit a Clapotis shawl, that it's like too trendy a pattern that like, totally everyone is like totally making right now. And I totally don't want to be a part of that movement. Ugh. Sometimes I make myself sick.

I've got some acrylic Woolease projects on the needles, just to use up the yarn. But those are process pieces, like the Ruffle Scarf from Scarf Style. I start them just to see if I can do them or not. When it turns out I can, I give up.

The Harry Potter sweater...eh...although...hmm...it would be kinda cool if I could finish that before the new book came out. Hark, a goal! Mugglenet puts the countdown at a little over 44 days. That should be PLENTY of time.

Now that I've shot myself in the foot with expressing confidence, I'm off to cast on the back.
