I warned you this would happen...

The extended absence? No no, I didn't warn you about that. I finally feel like I'm moving into the apartment, and here we start thinking heavily about moving. We're adding that to wedding plans, and having some semblance of sanity.

No no, what I warned you about, very early on if I recall (like in my first post) is that I'm fickle with the fibre arts. Knitting has sort of lost appeal to me since Christmas. Burn out? I've dappled with half a sock here, started about a dozen different projects there only to wrip them out. Don't know what it is, but perhaps it's time to become more broad in my stitchin interests.

This past Saturday, Stitchin Aunt Phyllis took me to the Three Rivers Quilt Guild Festival. I don't think she was purposely trying to enable me, but for some reason, a chord was struck. I realized all of the quilts that I had planned in college. And the ones that were so close to being finished that i just sort of abandoned when I picked up the sticks.

So I've switched out the size 10 bamboos for the size 10 betweens...at least for the time being. I still have a basket full of knitting projects, and I know I'll get inspired again. But in the mean time, I AM keeping busy...

With the log cabin quilt that was more than 3/4's quilted when I stopped working on it 2 years ago.

With the quilt I promised to a friend on her graduation from college...almost 3 years ago.

It could be done today if the dog would leave me alone to bind it off. Like having all the sweater pieces done, but leaving the finishing for more than 2 years. On the other hand, he looks so adorable just lying there, I don't want to move him. I'll just have to blog instead. (He's twitching & whining in the middle of a really exciting dream right now. I can't disturb that.)

Finally, I suppose the real reason I came back to quilting, was the upcoming wedding (less than 3 months now). Back when I started quilting, The Fiance and I had been dating for about two years. I went away for six months to Scotland, working on the Log Cabin Quilt. The last time I saw the fiance before I left, I left a freshly started quilt square hidden in his dorm room. When he found it, I told him to send to me, I added a round of logs and sent it back, and then he sent it back to me again.

Well, by the time I got back to school in September, I pretty much knew. He didn't officially propose for almost 4 more years, but I knew. I went to the quilt shop near the college and picked out some fabric and said I would start on this quilt once we were engaged. I only came across it a couple of weeks ago while cleaning up the guest bedroom.

With a ball of Karabella Aurora 8 for scale. See? I still use yarn!
I think I'm making progress. :-)
